Devoran Explorers
Who we are
Explorers is Scouts for young people aged 14-18 years. The Devoran Explorer Scouts Unit is part of Truro District and meets weekly in Devoran, Cornwall during term time. The Explorer Unit is for boys and girls who enjoy adventure, the outdoors, developing skills and leadership, meeting new people, trying different things in a supportive environment and.... exploring!
You don't need to have been in the Scouts to join, just contact us and come along to see.....
What we do
Our Wednesday evening meetings are different each week, activities are usually outside during the summer (and often in the winter too). Explorers are actively encouraged to develop their own agenda, try new things and if we want to do something there is usually a way! Recent activities include coasteering, cycling, night hikes, watersports, paintballing, preparing and cooking food on open fires, ten pin bowling, pioneering.
Once a month we spend an evening planning activities and working towards DofE awards which many Explorers choose to complete.
In between our weekly meetings, Explorers can opt to take part in the Ten Tors Challenge. Training for Ten Tors is intensive but fun and involves about 11 weekends spent walking and camping, mainly on Dartmoor, between January and May.
We also go camping for a few nights to a week's holiday in different places, do survival camps including sleeping outdoors in our own shelters and many other activities.
For a sample of what we do and what's coming soon, have a look at the Activities and Diary pages.
